Project Overview
Detailed Case Study
Scope of Works and Services:
The project for Stephen Edwards Constructions at The King's School focused on a large-scale refurbishment of the Macarthur and Hake Harris buildings. The scope of work covered the supply, fabrication, and installation of all external and internal glazing.
Glazing Systems and Materials: The project specified different types of glazing and framing systems for both buildings.
External Glazing (Hake Harris): This included 6mm Toughened Obscured glass for colour back, 6.38mm laminated Low-E Glass for north and south elevations, and 6.38mm & 10.38mm clear laminated glass for east and west elevations. The ground floor was specified with 24mm IGU (Insulated Glazing Unit) Double glazed Low-E Glass.
External Glazing (Macarthur): Similar to Hake Harris, this included 6mm Toughened Obscured glass, 6.38mm laminated Low-E Glass, and 6.38mm & 10.38mm clear laminated glass. The ground floor also used 24mm IGU Double glazed Low-E Glass.
Internal Glazing: All internal glazing was specified as 6.38mm clear laminated glass.
Frame Specifications: The aluminum frames were to be from Darley, Alspec, Capral, or equivalent systems to meet the specifications. External glazing utilized a single-glazed front-glazed framing system (100mm), while internal doors used a 400 series 100mm centreline system. Sliding doors were to be a Centre Glazed door frame. All frames were to have a warrantable powder-coat finish in a standard colour range.
Building Components: The project included a wide variety of components for both buildings across the ground and first floors. These included:
Hake Harris: A mix of double hung windows, single sliding doors, single swing doors, fixed panels, and awning windows. Many of these units also incorporated fixed CFC panels.
Macarthur: The scope for this building was similar, with a mix of double hung windows, single sliding doors, single swing doors, and fixed glass panels. It also included automatic awning windows and fixed CFC panels.
Exclusions and Notations: The quotation included a number of standard exclusions such as secondary framing, supporting steel structures, timber doors, hardware, cladding, security screens, balustrades, and testing of any nature. It also specified that the offer was based on pre-determined window dimensions and did not include site measure or survey, with a note that the surrounding structure must be designed to support the new products. The quote did not allow for wheelchair accessibility.
