Project Overview

Detailed Case Study

Scope of Works and Services:

The services provided by Modern Glazing Group were to supply, fabricate, and install a variety of glazing elements for the Parramatta West School project. The total price for the project was $849,225.00, excluding GST.

Key deliverables and specifications included:

  • Glazing Elements: The project required both external and internal glazing. The external glazing was to be 6.38mm and 10.38mm clear laminated Low-E glass, while the internal glazing was specified as 6.38mm and 10.38mm clear laminated glass. Louvres were to be manually operated with 6mm clear toughened glass blades. Colorback glass was also specified for some fixed panels.

  • Frame Specifications: The aluminum windows and doors were to be from the brand ALSPEC or an equivalent system that met the project specifications. The external windows would use a single-glazed front-glazed framing system (100mm), and internal windows a single-glazed centre-glazed framing system (100mm). Glazed swing doors would use the SWAN 45 series hinged door system or an equivalent. All finishes were to be powder-coated in DULUX Duratec Monument Matt.

  • Exclusions and Notations: The quote explicitly detailed a number of exclusions. These included the supply or installation of any secondary framing, bracing, or structural steel. The quote also excluded any access equipment, cranage, or hoisting, which were to be provided by the builder. Other excluded items were metal louvres, sunshades, fins, security screens (such as Crimsafe or Invisi-guard), roller or shutter doors, and any form of automation for doors or windows. The quote did not include the cost for a prototype or sample installations, testing of any nature, final cleaning, or removal of rubbish from the site. The provided sliding door systems did not allow for wheelchair accessibility.

  • Design and Warranty: The design was based on the provided architectural drawings, window schedule, and Section J report from May 6, 2020. The warranty was a standard offering from Modern Glazing Group, covering structural integrity, watertightness, and serviceability for a period to be specified from the date of practical completion, subject to proper maintenance and professional installation. The warranty specifically excluded consequential loss or costs.
